Harness the Power of the Hyperlink

by Scott Gaffan on September 1, 2011

The hyperlink is a wonderful and amazing tool once you understand how to use its great power. I have repeated this to sales associates in my training classes for the past few years like a mantra; “If you dangle enough carrots over a link you can get people to go where ever you want them to go”.

Find Your Dream Home Today

Like the example above, if we make the link look appealing enough, we can direct people to our valuable real estate information, search for listings pages, featured listings pages, to a lead capture form, our website, our social sites, a video, a virtual tour or slide show, our personal blog or directly to a blog post. Links allow us to share information via email without sending large attachments that need to be downloaded. The instant the link is clicked the information is displayed.

QR codes take the hyperlink to the next level. They allow a user to simply point their smart phone camera at a code and their QR code reader app takes them to the link instantly. QR codes can be created for any link or URL or website address on the web. So you can create codes for your listings, your contact information, your virtual tours or videos, your mobile website, your blog, your search for listings page or any other web address.

Most of the information shared online through social networking sites today comes in the form of links. Millions of links to blog posts, websites, videos, photo galleries, music and products and services are shared on social networks across the web each and every day.

I’ve created some great instructional videos detailing the most common ways links are shared. These videos take you step by step through the process of sharing links through email, your personal web site and your social networks. I’ve also included links to all of my past posts on QR codes including videos of how they work and how to create them.
