The April Fools Conflicker Worm

by Scott Gaffan on June 1, 2009

We have been receiving numerous panicked calls about the threat of a new  April Fools Worm infecting our computers so I thought that I’d attempt to calm the hysteria. Similar to any other online malware, trojan, worm, virus…etc. keeping your antivirus program updated on a regular basis is the best defense. As new online threats are created and released the anti-virus software companies create fixes and release these fixes with regular and ongoing updates to their programs. Your antivirus software is only effective if you perform manual updates on a regular basis or have your software set up to perform automatic updates. Having an up to date version of anti-virus software installed on your personal lap top or office computer is also a requirement to be on our company network. Refer to your particular anti-virus software Help files to learn how to set up automatic updates. Choose the link below to find out more about the April Fools Conflicker Worm.

To make sure that you have an up to date virus definition file, double click on the small gold shield in the bottom right corner of your taskbar. When the Symantec AntiVirus window displays, check the Virus Definitions File Version date. If it’s not up tp date, choose LiveUpdate  then Next and choose Finish when prompted.
